Age 10½ – 14 years
Our Scouts meet on Mondays at 7:30pm – 9:00pm during Nottinghamshire school term time, at Greenwood Community Centre.
The Scout section is the fourth section in the Scouting family. Scouts are members of a Scout Troop within a Scout Group. Each Scout Troop consists of small teams of six to eight Scouts called a Patrol, led by a Patrol Leader who is usually one of the older Scouts.
Outdoor activities feature prominently in the Scout Programme, with the highlight invariably being camping which, in the summer holidays, can often mean spending a week under canvas. Sometimes Scouts will camp overseas – either visiting an international Scout Centre or attending a mini-Jamboree.
Throughout the year, Scouts learn various skills, such as map reading, camp cooking and first aid in preparation for their camps. They also learn a range of survival skills. Other activities within the Scout section can include gliding, rock-climbing, photography and IT related activities.
The section builds on the basic training members received during their time in Cubs, setting higher challenges and encouraging Scouts to take the initiative in leading some aspects of their programme.
There is an extensive range of Activity badges that Scouts can earn. The range is diverse and Scouts are encouraged to take on new challenges and embark on new adventures when working for these badges.
All our leaders have undergone a DBS check and they all undertake training in running a Scout section. You can be certain that your child will be in safe hands!
